Deloitte2026-08-13 02:40:40Former Deloitte Hong Kong IT manager pleads guilty after selling 423 laptops and losing the proceeds in stock tradingA former information technology manager at Deloitte’s Hong Kong office has pleaded guilty to theft after admitting he sold hundreds of company laptops over roughly a year and a half, according to court details cited in the source report. The case involves 423 laptops and estimated proceeds of about HK$1.2 million. The defendant, Ho Man-kit, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 21. Court materials cited by Hong Kong 01 show Ho began selling company laptop inventory in September 2021 to the head of a second-hand computer recycling business, with most transactions conducted in cash and a smaller portion settled by bank transfer. The buyer said Ho claimed the sales had been authorized by the company. Deloitte staff later discovered inventory discrepancies during a routine stock check on Feb. 13, 2023, and intercepted a box containing 10 Lenovo laptops that was being removed from the office. Bank records showed about HK$458,000 had been deposited into Ho’s account by the recycler. Police estimated total cash proceeds at around HK$1.2 million after including older devices sold without full records. Under caution, Ho said he suffered from a gambling addiction and had transferred almost all of the money into a Futu Securities account to trade stocks, where he ultimately lost it all.1600
Bybit2026-08-10 09:04:00Bybit sues North Korea over $1.5 billion hack and wins court order freezing identified assetsCrypto exchange Bybit has filed a civil lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia over the theft of $1.5 billion from the platform in February 2025, naming the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, its Reconnaissance General Bureau, and Lazarus Group. The exchange said a judge granted a preliminary injunction that bars the transfer or dissipation of identified stolen assets while the case moves forward, and found Bybit likely to succeed on the merits. Bybit said it has recovered about $48.4 million and frozen roughly $30.5 million across more than 28 exchanges and custodians, together equal to around 5% of the amount taken. The lawsuit also names unidentified individuals and entities holding or moving the funds as John Doe defendants. The exchange said attackers drained roughly 500,000 ETH from a cold wallet after manipulating a signing interface that displayed the correct destination address to approvers while changing the wallet’s underlying logic. By April, Ben Zhou said 69% of the proceeds remained traceable, 28% had gone dark, and 4% had been frozen. By June, Greek authorities had traced part of the funds to a wallet at a domestic exchange and issued a seizure order. Bybit said the civil case is proceeding alongside criminal investigations and that it continues to share blockchain intelligence with agencies including the FBI.550
Bitcoin2026-07-13 11:31:31Qian Zhimin 60,000 BTC case set to move into evidence review after OctoberA court hearing in the Qian Zhimin case involving 60,000 BTC was held from July 7 to July 9, 2026, and the next phase is expected to shift toward evidence review and asset tracing, according to Odaily, citing Caixin. The report said the case is likely to gradually enter the evidence and merits stage after October this year. The court is expected to focus on five issues: how RMB investment funds entered Lantian Geri and related accounts; how the funds were pooled, transferred, and exchanged; which funds can be demonstrably linked to the Bitcoin seized in the UK; the losses, repayments, and prior compensation of each claimant; and the exact property relationship among individual investors, Lantian Geri, and the Bitcoin involved in the case. According to the analysis cited by Caixin, after disputes over the applicable law were addressed and the judge made a ruling in July, the case will gradually move away from the question of which legal framework applies and toward whether the evidence can substantiate the claimed rights.2370
